F4 Anniversary Edition Helmet

Help us celebrate our 10 years of creating superior technical riding gear with the F4 Anniversary Edition Helmet. Creating a level of comfort never felt before, the Klim F4 Helmet, with an unprecedented 41 air-craving intakes, is a new standard in helmet ventilation technology. It all starts with a design that more effectively channels air into the helmet where the EPS liner maximizes airflow over the entire head to dramatically cool the rider’s head. Safety standards have been exceeded not only through the use of aerospace materials, but also in the design. The F4 exceeds Snell M2000, M2005 and U.S. DOT standards.

• RAM AIR INDUCTION TECHNOLOGY With 41 Air-Craving Intakes,

I got to try out the F4 this weekend and I really like it. The goggle port is more comfortable than either the Bell Moto 7R or Shoei VFX-W that I have. The F4 really flows some air! On Saturday the temps were in the mid 30's and on the trail I noticed air coming through but once I got out onto the lake and got up to a higher speed, my bald (I mean follically challenged) head got uncomfortably cold. I then headed back to the trees and all was well. I got stuck twice and noticed the F4 didn't get as hot as quickly as my other helmets when you initially start kicking snow and then realize you are in for a full blown, get out the shovel, take everything off and dig for 20 minutes stuck. It was nice to put the helmet back on and not have it ice cold, soaked with frozen sweat. I also noticed the helmet had less wind noise
than either the Moto 7 or Moto 7R I own.

On Sunday the temps were in the low 20's so I installed the other liner and went and practiced on our XC race course for 50 miles. No issues with my head getting cold and I was very pleased2 to find the helmet fit better with my Leatt brace compared to the two Moto's I used before. Conditions didn't allow me to test the breath deflector very well as I removed it on my Saturday ride since it was too warm for it and didn't run it on Sunday since the temps were not that cold.

A few things I noticed:
1. The vented liner is somewhat "pokey" to the top of my forehead when putting the helmet on and wiggling it around for adjustment and the best fit.
2. The scallop vents make it more difficult to slide your goggles on, over the helmet. I found it to be a bit difficult when wearing my Leatt and Tek-Vest since the upward mobility of my arms is restricted by the protective gear.
3. The scalloped vents seem like they will be easy to snag on trees when ducking your head to go under branches.
4. The visor can be adjusted on the fly! On Sunday morning the sun was in my eyes and I could loosen the screw with my glove and lower the visor while riding. Very cool.
5. The F4 and its strap do not catch on my Leatt brace like some of my other helmets do. Nice.
6. The liner and ear pieces are really easy to remove. That's awesome. But do the plastic buttons hold up okay over the long run? My Bell helmet's had pretty miserable durability with their liners.

Overall I wish I would have bought an F4 a long time ago. I still have some reservations about the vent holes in the shell when it comes to a bad wreck, but I think they may be my perception more than a valid concern? I always buy Snell approved helmets and have had numerous bad wrecks over the past 20 years. Since I never got hurt wearing a Bell I stuck with that brand. I had a Shoei back in the late 80's and split my chin open on the headlight pod of my Indy coming off a jump. After that it took me a long time to consider buying a Shoei. I'm just including this since I thought you might find it useful to get some insight into the mind of a long time snowmachine enthusiast.

I'll send you some more feedback as the season progresses along.
Cheers,
Scott

Great quality, great looks and can be used for bikes and has an insert for warmer sledding days. Comes with a great Klim helmet bag. I only use Klim for bikes and sleds and the quality is top of the line.
